Henderson Harbor Yacht Club was established
in 1947 on the shores of Henderson Harbor on the Northeastern end of Lake
Ontario. For over 50 years our focus has been family sailing. Approximately
100 families and individuals are members. We offer many activities from racing
and cruising to social events.
Sail in the protected
waters of the bay or venture to near and distant ports on Lake Ontario and
beyond. You can head south through the Oswego and Erie Canals, west to the other
Great Lakes, or north through the St. Lawrence Seaway. Explore the most
beautiful sailing grounds in North America – the Thousand Islands!
Racing
HHYC has a full schedule of racing for center-boarders and keel boats. Both
short round-the-buoy and longer races are held within the sheltered bays of
Black River, Chaumont and Henderson. Children’s races are also offered in the
schedule.
HHYC hosts major annual events such as the
Duck Island Race and Hospice Charity Race. The club is a period host for EYC
and former host of the Lightning North Americans.
Social/Club House HHYC offers a full calendar of social events featuring parties on the pier,
wine tasting, Tuesday night family style dinners, Friday night fish fries and
Saturday night dinners. Breakfasts and lunches are served on weekends. The bar
offers a cozy meeting place to replay the day’s races or plan next week’s
cruises.
Club House
The club house overlooks Henderson Harbor, the boat slips and mooring area. It
features a bar, dining room, kitchen, sun porch, heads and hot showers. You can
sit on the pario or under the large oak at picnic tables for lunch or happy
hour. Relax on lawn chairs with a good book or conversation in the warm sun or
cooling breeze.
Guest House
This charming cottage on the water front includes access to all the club
facilities and events for a modest weekly rental fee.
Sailing and Swim School
The Henderson Harbor Water Sports Programs, Inc. teaches sailing and swimming to
children and adults using the club facilities and a fleet of over 20 boats.
Over 100 children participate annually. The program is supported through
tuition, gifts and an annual auction at the club. It is a 501(c)(3)
not-for-profit corporation.
Reciprocals
Club members enjoy reciprocal arrangements with 72 yacht clubs around the lake.
HHYC welcomes yachts from other clubs on the same basis as they accommodate our
club members. This ranges from free nights to first night paid with second and
third nights free. This is a major benefit for cruising club members. Visiting
boats from non-reciprocating clubs are charged a daily fee.
Permanent leased docks have water and electric.
Dinghy land storage, small boat dry storage, and a dinghy dock are
available.
Wine, mixed cocktails and soft drinks are available for purchase from the
bar.
Grills are available for use.

the Neighborhood

Watertown. Salmon Run mall, located approximately 15 miles north in Watertown,
